FORMONTHILLS FROM COUL DEN
(This event has already taken place)

Woods and plants

IN DETAIL

The car park is at the end of Calder Court in Glenrothes. Turn off Tanna Drive into Calder Court and continue beyond at the end of that cul de sac to the car park on the left.

Car sharing from Cammo Road leaving at 9:30.

Formonthills is a young woodland but it’s got a lot to offer, with 80,000 trees planted with the help of the local community, wildflower meadows, wetland areas, abundant wildlife, several circular walks, and a commanding position offering spectacular views.

Coul Den is now a shallow loch with landscaped ponds, and an impressive path network. It was built in 1890 as a reservoir suppling water to the Haig Bottling plant in Markinch. The site contains large areas of developing natural habitats that attract many birds, insects, and mammals. It is one of the largest areas of natural occurring ‘Willow Carr’ in Fife.

Check advice page for field trip guidelines. Consider carrying a stick/trekking pole to help negotiating some rough ground or when leaving a path.
