IN DETAIL

Fungus enthusiasts inviting ENHS to join them at Newington Cemetery for a joint foray.

This is one of Edinburgh's Victorian cemeteries, tucked away between Dalkeith Road and the railway line. The northern part of the cemetery has been deliberately left to grow wild as a haven for wildlife. The rest is grassy with scattered mature trees and bushes.

The cemetery has a network of maintained paths, which are mostly flat but can be quite muddy. We are likely to go off the paths at various points to explore areas under trees and some of these areas are very overgrown and uneven underfoot, with a lot of fallen branches.

Bring lunch and dress for the season.
