WATER OF LEITH AT MURRAYFIELD
(This event has already taken place)

river plants

IN DETAIL

From concrete scar to naturalising river banks. Most years the river has washed over the new profile and continued to naturalise with some planted areas supplemented by the species washed onto the area. There is a good mix of vegetation and many other species groups have been attracted. Some traditional local river birds and changing populations of visitors. Mammals include the ever-popular otters and less obvious smaller mammals. The insect populations ever-changing.

There is a continuous tarmac walk/cycleway alongside the river, however, we will walk along the lower area accessed by steepish short paths. The bridges are low for pedestrians but you can return to the path for these.

Staff/volunteers at the Water of Leith Conservation Trust are actively managing invasive plants, notably giant hogweed. If you should see giant hogweed plants please avoid contact.

Bring lunch.
