IN DETAIL

Joint meetng with TWIC.

Meet at 10:30 am at Straiton Park and Ride. We will then car share to the site.

Site details: Fullarton Water is located 3 miles to the SE of Penicuik in Midlothian (vice-county 83 Midlothian, site centred on NT284572). The site consists of a narrow valley of neutral grassland, marsh and some flushes. The site was designated as a Local Biodiversity Site (LBS) in 2009 for its wildlife interest.

Aim: To update the species records for the site prior to its re-assessment of the site as a Local Biodiversity Site. Botanical species of note previously recorded on site include Few-flowered Spike-rush (Eleocharis quinqueflora), Grass-of-Parnassus (Parnassia palustris), Marsh Lousewort (Pedicularis palustris), Common Butterwort (Pinguicula vulgaris), Narrow Buckler-fern (Dryopteris carthusiana), Knotted Pearlwort (Sagina nodosa), plus a variety of sedges such as Brown Sedge (Carex disticha) and Tawny Sedge (Carex hostiana). Otter (Lutra lutra) has been previously recorded on site.

Requirements: Lunch, outdoor footwear, waterproofs/sunscreen and sunhat (as weather dictates). Rough ground, some fences to cross. Very wet and boggy so waterproof trousers and possibly wellingtons. A stick may be useful.
