The Botanical Society of Britain and Ireland is holding it's twelfth Annual New Year Plant Hunt NYPH. Each year more groups take part. So far there have been a small number of hunts in Edinburgh. Let's change this in 2023. This year has thrown some interesting weather at us and the onset of winter seemed to be delayed. People have commented that they have seen apples, hazel and much more flowering in November. There is undoubtedly a bumper crop of fruits on trees, how will this impact fruit feeding birds and other residents of trees? A long data set may offer answers about the relationship between weather and nature, and give an idea of what changes are occurring. Instructions for taking part in the NYPH can be found here https://bsbi.org/new-year-plant-hunt New information for this year will be updated nearer the time. The dates are 31st December 2022 to 3rd January 2023. The Edinburgh Natural History Society is encouraging it's members to do the hunt in small groups. As a group you could join 'The Calton Crows' or create your own group, have a look on our events pages. Join in with a local park group to spread interest in natural history. Good hunting.
